Wed 3 Oct 12.45pm – 1.30pm
Join art historian and collector, Jill Salmons, and Assistant Curator Anna Young as they discuss Research and Cultural Collections’ latest exhibition Masquerade in the Cross River Region: the Nicklin-Salmons Collection. This is a unique opportunity to hear about Salmons’ first-hand experience of conducting fieldwork in the Cross River region of Nigeria and Cameroon in the 1970s, her work with artists and the Nicklin-Salmons Collection of Ethnography.
This exhibition of photographs vividly brings to life masquerade, mask art forms and artistic production. It also celebrates the imminent gift of the Nicklin-Salmons Collection of Ethnography to Research and Cultural Collections, marking the beginning of a new and exciting collaboration and expansion of the University’s African collections.
